BEQUESTS
– A LASTING GIFT
In today's competitive funding environment, establishing and maintaining a solid financial base for future operations is becoming increasingly challenging. Remembering the
Mission in your Will is a very effective way of making a lasting difference to the lives of marginalised and excluded Aucklanders.
When making a bequest, you have the option of leaving the bequest to the Mission for general operating costs, for a specific
service or making it to the Auckland City Mission Capital Foundation.

The Capital Foundation
The Auckland City Mission Capital Foundation was set-up because of its belief in the work of the Auckland City Mission and the understanding that the financial vulnerability of the
Mission impacts on its potential to always consistently provide excellent service to those needing its help.
Providing financial security is a meaningful way the Auckland City Mission Capital Foundation can ensure that the work of the Mission is
able to occur for as long as there is need. Providing this reassurance allows the Mission to get on with their role of delivering practical assistance and support to those most in need in the
community.

How the Auckland City Mission Capital Foundation Works
The Auckland City Mission Capital Foundation has a base of capital comprised of donations specifically given for the foundation and legacies from supporters of the Mission. This capital
is invested and the return from these investments provides an ongoing income stream, which is used to assist funding the Auckland City Mission's services.
It is the intention that the Foundation will only distribute the income from investments, meaning the capital base of the Foundation will
remain untouched.
The initial capital base of the Foundation was $1 million, which was kindly donated by an anonymous benefactor. The same benefactor
pledged $3 million to match donations to the Foundation on a dollar for dollar basis, until 2013. Meaning, investments in the Foundation will be doubled.
It is intended to build the capital base of the Foundation to $10million in the medium term.
