What we do

Thousands of Aucklanders have relied on the services of the Auckland City Mission at some point in their lives.

Auckland City Mission Drop-In, 140 Hobson St.The Auckland City Mission provides unique and specialised health and social services to marginalised Aucklanders. The Mission offers hope to individuals and families who may be experiencing a temporary set back or a long-term problem that needs expert attention.

Whether it's a specific issue that has led people to the Mission, the effects of the continuing poverty cycle, or a culmination of many problems, the Mission's Social Workers are there to help.

On arrival at the Mission, one of the social workers will take time to talk through a persons situation in depth - to really try to understand what is going on for them.

The Mission doesn't just hand out a food parcel and send people on their way. Staff provide advice, give immediate assistance, make referrals to other services and develop a plan to really help.

The focus is two-fold: what are a persons immediate needs? And what can be changed to make improvements in the future?

The initial assessment with a Social Worker is one step in an integrated approach within Mission services.

The Homeless Team, the medical staff at the Calder Centre and the Alcohol and Other Drug Professionals at Detox work along with the Community and Crisis Social Workers to ensure the best outcome for those accessing service.

Working in Partnership

Auckland City Mission staff work closely with many different organisations.

Effective communication and strong relationships across agencies provides better outcomes for all clients. Ensuring that people receive the full support available to them and helping to minimise service duplication. Inter-agency communication also guides future service and policy development.

Auckland City Mission is a member of and/or works alongside:

  • The Homeless Steering Committee, putting into action the Auckland City Council's "Homeless Action Plan 2008 - 2013". Read more
  • Child Poverty Action Group

Auckland City Mission services are constantly being reviewed and redeveloped as the political, economic and social climate changes.
