Be part of our exciting new dentistry clinic
Support your community by volunteering at our new dental clinic at HomeGround!
The Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai are opening a free dental service at our award-winning inner-city hub HomeGround from July this year offering ‘Immediate and Essential’ treatments to people experiencing poverty and homelessness who can’t otherwise access dental care.
The Mission team are seeking experienced dentists to support this vital new service by volunteering their time and expertise in regular shifts.
Dr Hugh Trengrove will lead the team, supported by a paid dental assistant. Dr Hugh has advised the our team throughout the establishment of the clinic and continues to offer his expertise.
‘The Mission team’s focus on improving oral health for our inner-city community is truly remarkable, and their significant investment is something to celebrate. It has been a huge privilege to have been involved with this initiative and so cool knowing soon we will actually be delivering care. To make this ‘dream’ a sustainable reality we need more dentists to volunteer their time to assist. If you have the time to help, please let the team know. The work you will do will make a real difference to people’s lives and I am sure your contribution to this will be one of the most rewarding parts of your professional career.’ – Dr Hugh
We plan to open the clinic three days a week, increasing that over time. Referrals to the dental clinic will primarily be through other Mission services.
The brand-new clinic is housed within HomeGround’s Calder Health Centre and includes a Clesta II Pedestal (Knee Break) chair, Holder Vacc Pack (No Spittoon), Cart Package, Belmont Phot-x IIs LCD Screen wall mount x-ray, Acteon XMP 2D Wall 220-240V OPG.
Volunteers will have access to the Mission staffroom and other amenities.
All volunteer dentists will receive training on how to best engage with the patients of whom most have experienced significant trauma in their life.
