**** LEVEL 3 ANNOUNCEMENT:  Thank you for considering volunteering at the Auckland City Mission.

There’s more to giving than just money. Time is precious too. We love it when volunteers offer a few hours of their spare time. Volunteers are a rock-solid part of our work and make a huge difference.

Thank you Auckland for lending us your helping hands – we are grateful for your help and know we can count on you!

How you can help

Christmas

Thank you for so generously supporting the Auckland City Mission / Te Tāpui Atawhai by wishing to volunteer at Christmas.

If you have volunteered in previous years, you’ll know that in 2020, the Mission needed to offer Christmas differently than we had before, due to COVID-19.   As we start to prepare for Christmas 2021, we face the same challenges while we all live with the uncertainty that there could be more cases of community transmission.

So while the Mission will again bring the magic of Christmas to people in desperate need – as we always do – it’ll be in a way that minimises any risk of COVID-19 community transmission and abides by the COVID-19 alert level at the time.  Many of the people we support have significant health challenges, so the Mission is being particularly careful about our 2021 Christmas operations.

We plan to run smaller events on Christmas Day, like we did last year, rather than the large lunch that we’re traditionally known for hosting.   With our friends at Nando’s we will be hosting lunches for people who could not otherwise take in the festivities of Christmas Day.

Although the Mission won’t require as many Christmas Day volunteers as we had prior to COVID-19, we are still looking for volunteers to help in other ways.  You could sign up to support with the Christmas food and gift service leading up to the day itself.

That can involve sorting and wrapping gifts, putting together boxes of food, taking food and gifts to people’s cars at our various collection points, or many other activities.

Or you could donate to the Mission, to support our work.

However you wish to support us this Christmas Day, do so knowing you have the greatest thanks of all at the Mission.   And know that you are truly making a difference, because everyone deserves a Christmas Day.
