Residential Social Detoxification Centre (Elm Street)
The Mission’s residential social detoxification centre, known as ‘Elm Street,’ is Auckland’s only residential, non-medical alcohol and drug detoxification centre.
It provides a supported environment for people to detoxify from alcohol and other drugs without the use of medication. After their stay, we support the individual to sustain positive lifestyle changes.
Elm Street staff and volunteers provide a 24-hour residential service for up to 10 clients at a time and is open to people over the age of 18.
The centre provides a safe environment, nutritious food, a quiet space in which to reflect and professional, confidential advice, support and advocacy. Staff facilitate group educational sessions, provide access to community and recreational services and run relaxation workshops.
Poppy* is a young mum with three children, who were all removed from her care due to her drug use. Over the past 12 months, Poppy has worked hard to beat her addiction for the sake of her children. She enrolled at Elm Street and, while there have been periods where she has wanted to give up, she has remained committed to creating a new life for herself and her children. Poppy completed three weeks at Elm Street and is about to enter a rehabilitation programme where she will be able to bring her children along with her, so that they can heal as a family.
During their stay, Elm Street staff will also work with clients to prepare them for future treatment options.
Clients are asked to contribute $25 per night, which goes toward the cost of providing food and accommodation.
